# Smoltek Hydrogen enables more cost-effective green hydrogen production

Smoltek’s Porous Trans­port Elec­trode (PTE) tech­nol­o­gy increas­es avail­able sur­face area 30-fold — while using up to 95% less iridium.

The design of Smoltek Hydro­gen’s PTE for PEMWE (PEM elec­trolyz­ers) involves a unique approach where we have devel­oped an enhanced sur­face area that facil­i­tates us to deposit ultra-low lev­els of Irid­i­um cat­a­lyst struc­tures. The designed elec­trodes improve the irid­i­um uti­liza­tion ratio dur­ing water elec­trol­y­sis, which will even­tu­al­ly enhance the elec­trolyz­er per­for­mance and durability.
