# Smoltek Hydrogen’s PTE could be a game changer for green hydrogen production

Smoltek Hydro­gen’s break­through in reduc­ing irid­i­um usage in PEM elec­trolyz­ers is a mon­u­men­tal step for­ward for the hydro­gen indus­try. This inno­va­tion address­es a crit­i­cal bar­ri­er to large-scale hydro­gen pro­duc­tion, posi­tion­ing Smoltek as a leader in the field, states Parsers Ven­ture Cap­i­tal Insights. 

**Tech­no­log­i­cal back­ground:**  
The inno­va­tion stems from Smoltek’s nanofiber-based Porous Trans­port Elec­trode (PTE) archi­tec­ture, which expands cat­alyt­ic sur­face area by 30×, allow­ing near­ly all irid­i­um atoms to active­ly par­tic­i­pate in the reac­tion, enabling very low loading.
