# Smoltek patent No. 64 now granted

Smoltek’s 64th patent has been grant­ed in Tai­wan and relates to the Inter­pos­er fam­i­ly, and the claim cov­er con­cepts of minia­tur­ized com­pact ener­gy stor­age devices, e.g. capacitors.

This inven­tion facil­i­tates inte­gra­tion of extreme­ly thin sol­id-state devices, such as CNF-MIM capac­i­tors. The main advan­tage is that the ener­gy stor­ing devices can be placed clos­er to the inter­con­nec­tion points and pow­er rails of the active chip, thus enabling more effi­cient pow­er man­age­ment solu­tions for the whole circuit.

“The tim­ing of this grant could not be bet­ter since the CNF-MIM con­cept receiv­ing sig­nif­i­cant atten­tion from the indus­try play­ers. I view this grant as an impor­tant mile­stone to achieve, help­ing us to solid­i­fy our IP foot­print around the world, spe­cial­ly in Tai­wan, the largest semi­con­duc­tor hub”, says Dr Shafiq Kabir, Founder and Chief Inno­va­tion Offi­cer at Smoltek.

Our Inter­pos­er patent fam­i­ly pro­tects the field of com­pact ener­gy stor­age devices based on our CNF-MIM capac­i­tor con­cept. The claims in the Inter­pos­er fam­i­ly cov­er device struc­tures which may be on a sub­strate of choice, or on an inter­pos­er, or con­nect­ed to an inte­grat­ed cir­cuit. One aspect also cov­ers the appli­ca­tion of capac­i­tor devices where it is con­nect­ed to an inte­grat­ed cir­cuit and/​or a bat­tery like ener­gy source.
