Smoltek Hydrogen is developing Smoltek PTE – a proprietary porous transport electrode based on carbon nanostructures, which is intended to meet the requirements of next-generation PEM electrolyzers for the production of fossil-free hydrogen.
Smoltek HydroÂgen’s porous transÂport elecÂtrode techÂnolÂoÂgy has the potenÂtial to sigÂnifÂiÂcantÂly increase the catÂalytÂic activÂiÂty of an elecÂtrolyzÂer cell, while reducÂing iridÂiÂum conÂsumpÂtion by up to 95% – withÂout comÂproÂmisÂing perÂforÂmance. This techÂnoÂlogÂiÂcal innoÂvaÂtion is conÂsidÂered a breakÂthrough with great sigÂnifÂiÂcance for the proÂducÂtion of green hydroÂgen and othÂer susÂtainÂable enerÂgy applications.
Smoltek HydroÂgen’s PTE techÂnolÂoÂgy has been recÂogÂnized this spring by enabling hydroÂgen proÂducÂtion with only 0.1 mg of iridÂiÂum per square cenÂtimeÂter – while mainÂtainÂing perÂforÂmance in the elecÂtrolyzÂer cell. The comÂpaÂny has also iniÂtiÂatÂed colÂlabÂoÂraÂtions to indusÂtriÂalÂize the techÂnolÂoÂgy togethÂer with Impact CoatÂings (manÂuÂfacÂturÂing), as well as with HerÂaeus to optiÂmize iridÂiÂum mixÂtures with the aim of furÂther increasÂing the amount of hydroÂgen proÂduced per gram of iridium.
