Semiconductor R&D Project Manager – ALD

Are you an experienced and hands-on Semiconductor R&D Manager – ALD? Apply today!

Smoltek Semi AB is pioneering ultra-thin carbon nanofiber-based metal-insulator-metal (CNF-MIM) capacitor technology. To accelerate our technology platform towards manufacturable, high-performance products, we are looking for a technically strong and product-oriented Semiconductor R&D Project Manager to lead and coordinate our atomic layer deposition (ALD) activities.

You will drive ALD development using both Smoltek’s in-house ALD capability and external tools and development partners. The role combines technical depth with hands-on project leadership: translating product and device requirements into development plans, coordinating experiments and resources, and driving ALD processes from material development towards robust device integration and scalable manufacturing.

You will work closely with internal engineers as well as external laboratories, research institutes, equipment suppliers, and manufacturing partners, and will directly report to the CTO.

What you will do:

  • Plan and follow up DoE activities, process splits, wafer runs, characterization, and learning cycles, and correlate process parameters with material and electrical performance.
  • Translate capacitor, dielectric-stack, and product requirements into process-development targets and experimental plans.
  • Own and drive Smoltek’s ALD development activities, including work performed on our internal ALD tool and at external partners.
  • Define project objectives, plans, milestones, priorities, resources, risks, and deliverables for ALD-related R&D activities.
  • Manage technical collaboration with external ALD laboratories, foundries, equipment suppliers, and other development partners.
  • Ensure clear project documentation, experiment traceability, data review, decision making, and regular communication of status, risks, and next steps.
  • Support transfer of successful ALD processes towards repeatable, scalable, production-relevant process flows.

What you bring:

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • Strong technical background in semiconductor processing, thin films, materials engineering, or device fabrication.
  • Experience leading technical R&D projects, including planning, coordination, prioritization, risk management, and follow-up of deliverables.
  • Hands-on experience with atomic layer deposition (ALD), especially high‑k dielectrics, metal electrodes, or semiconductor thin-film stacks.
  • Ability to work across disciplines and convert technical challenges into structured development activities and clear decisions.
  • A product-oriented mindset with an interest in moving technology from experiments and proof-of-concept towards robust and manufacturable solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and a structured, proactive, hands-on way of working, with the ability to take ownership and drive multiple activities in parallel.

Nice to have:

  • Industrial experience in semiconductor, MEMS, advanced packaging, capacitor, display, battery, or related thin-film technologies.
  • Knowledge of MIM structures, dielectric reliability, interface engineering, and electrical characterization of thin-film devices.
  • Experience with design of experiments (DoE), statistical process development, and data-driven optimization.

Why Smoltek?

Smoltek is working on a technology you won’t find just anywhere; we combine carbon nanofibers with advanced thin films to enable next-generation capacitors. In this role, you will influence both the technical direction and the way our ALD development is executed, from materials and processes all the way to product-relevant solutions. The team is small, skilled, and collaborative, so decisions are close to the technology and good ideas can move quickly.
