Smoltek enables the next generation digital and fossil-free society

The world needs more computing power and more fossil-free energy. Read about how Smoltek enables the next generation digital and fossil-free society – two global megatrends that will dominate industry investment.

Fredrik Liljeberg • June 16, 2026

Over the next 5–10 years, two global megatrends will dominate industry investment:

  1. Explosive growth in AI, data centers and advanced electronics.
  2. The transition from fossil fuels to fossil-free energy and hydrogen.

Both developments run into the same problem: today’s technology is beginning to reach its physical and economic limits.

Data centers and AI systems increasingly demand performance without skyrocketing energy consumption. At the same time, governments and industrial companies want to build a fossil-free energy supply, but the cost of green hydrogen is still too high.

This is where Smoltek comes into play.

What does Smoltek offer?

Smoltek develops and commercializes material and component solutions that make the electronics of the future more powerful and energy efficient and the hydrogen production of the future cheaper and more scalable.

The company currently focuses on two markets:

  • Smoltek Semi – solutions that help future AI processors and advanced semiconductors get a stable and efficient power supply in ever smaller spaces.
  • Smoltek Hydrogen – solutions that greatly reduce the need for rare and expensive materials in the production of green hydrogen.

Basically, Smoltek is about creating more performance on a smaller surface and with less resource consumption.

Imagine the year 2035

AI is in almost everything: factories, healthcare, vehicles, robotics and communication systems. Data centers have become as critical to society as electricity grids and roads.

At the same time, green hydrogen is used to manufacture steel, drive heavy transport and store energy from solar and wind power.

But development is slowed by two bottlenecks:

  • Electronics are becoming increasingly compact and energy dense.
  • Hydrogen production is limited by costs and availability of critical raw materials.

Smoltek addresses both of these issues.

If the company succeeds, their solutions will not be visible to the consumer – but they will be inside the products and systems that shape the future:

  • AI servers that deliver more computing power per watt.
  • Data centers with lower energy consumption.
  • Cheaper production of fossil-free hydrogen.
  • Energy systems that become less dependent on rare raw materials.

The company therefore does not sell a final product to consumers: Smoltek enables others to build better products.

Smoltek’s vision is to be an enabler for the next generation’s digital and sustainable society.

By solving critical material and performance problems, the company wants to contribute to both the digital revolution and the energy transition.

How does the business idea contribute to the vision?

Smoltek’s business concept is to develop, protect and commercialize technology platforms that solve the industry’s most critical bottlenecks.

The company identifies areas where demand is growing rapidly but where today’s solutions are no longer sufficient. Smoltek then develops components and production processes that make the next technology shift possible.

In this way, the business idea becomes a direct tool for realizing the vision of more powerful electronics and more sustainable energy production.

How will Smoltek make money?

Smoltek builds value by developing patented solutions that can be integrated into the products and production systems of large industrial companies. The company has an extensive patent portfolio that creates barriers to entry and enables commercial collaborations.

  • The revenue can come from several sources:
  • Licensing of technology and patents.
  • Cooperation agreements with global industry partners.
  • Royalty income when the technology is used in large-scale production.
  • Sales of own components and materials.

The business model is characterized by the fact that a relatively small technology company can create great value by becoming an important part of very large markets.

What driving forces help Smoltek?

Political drivers: Governments in Europe, the US and Asia are investing hundreds of billions in both semiconductors and green energy. Security of supply, technological independence and climate goals drive the demand for new solutions. Smoltek operates in the middle of these priority areas.

Economic drivers: AI investments are growing strongly at the same time as the industry is looking for cheaper routes to fossil-free energy. Technology that can lower costs or increase performance therefore has a clear commercial value.

Social drivers: Society expects both more digital services and faster climate change. This increases the need for more efficient electronics and sustainable energy production.

Technical drivers: In both the semiconductor industry and the hydrogen industry, established solutions are beginning to reach their limitations. When existing technology is no longer sufficient, opportunities are opened up for new players with new approaches. Smoltek develops solutions precisely where these bottlenecks occur.

To summarize

Smoltek develops key technologies for two of the world’s strongest growth areas – AI infrastructure and green hydrogen – with the goal of solving critical bottlenecks that today’s technology has difficulty handling.
