Smoltek has been awarded two new patent grants in a patent family called Discrete CNF-MIM. The protected innovation discloses a discrete capacitor component based on our CNF-MIM technology. With these two patents, our IP portfolio will now comprise 89 granted patents.
The two newÂly approved patents are the secÂond and third in the DisÂcrete CNF-MIM patent famÂiÂly. This parÂticÂuÂlar innoÂvaÂtion makes full use of and derive the benÂeÂfit from the extra-ordiÂnary surÂface to volÂume ratio proÂvidÂed by carÂbon nanofibers to creÂate a MIM capacÂiÂtor with unparÂalÂleled high capacÂiÂtance density.
The DisÂcrete CNF-MIM patent famÂiÂly covÂers the field of disÂcrete capacÂiÂtors – a field that we have been heavÂiÂly investÂing in terms of R&D and innoÂvaÂtion resources.
Farzan GhaÂvaniÂni, CTO at Smoltek.
The patent disÂclosÂes a disÂcrete metÂal-insuÂlaÂtor-metÂal (MIM) capacÂiÂtor comÂpoÂnent based on the proÂpriÂetary carÂbon nanofiber techÂnolÂoÂgy develÂoped at Smoltek. It also describes the strucÂture of such capacÂiÂtor and the relatÂed microÂfabÂriÂcaÂtion processÂes to realÂize it.
This patent grant furÂther strengthÂens our IP portÂfoÂlio in a field that the semiÂconÂducÂtor indusÂtry is heavÂiÂly investÂing in, nameÂly advanced capacÂiÂtor techÂnolÂoÂgy. Our investÂment in this is driÂven by the demands of newÂer inteÂgratÂed cirÂcuits tarÂgetÂing advanced appliÂcaÂtion areas such as AI. It is rewardÂing to witÂness that our R&D efforts as reflectÂed in our expandÂing IP portÂfoÂlio aligns well with the needs of the indusÂtry and that our disÂrupÂtive techÂnolÂoÂgy can solve probÂlems that traÂdiÂtionÂal techÂnoloÂgies cannot.

The DisÂcrete CNF-MIM patent famÂiÂly disÂclosÂes a high-denÂsiÂty disÂcrete capacÂiÂtor based on Smoltek’s carÂbon nanofiber techÂnolÂoÂgy paving the way for ultra-thin capacÂiÂtors that can be placed adjaÂcent to the comÂpoÂnents they are supÂposed to supÂport. The patent famÂiÂly enables the sysÂtem designÂers to bring forÂward inteÂgraÂtion and packÂagÂing schemes with supeÂriÂor perÂforÂmance with very small footÂprint. These new schemes are vital in develÂopÂing new prodÂucts in the field of IoT, wearÂables, high-perÂforÂmance comÂputÂing (HPC), ArtiÂfiÂcial intelÂliÂgence (AI), and similar.
Smoltek’s patent portÂfoÂlio now globÂalÂly comÂprisÂes 89 grantÂed patents. Read more about our IP and patents.
