CNF-MIM capacitors pass 1,000 hours of reliability test
Smoltek Semi has reached an important technical milestone in the development of the company’s carbon fiber-based CNF-MIM technology. The capacitors have successfully passed a 1,000-hour high-temperature durability test, confirming the robustness of the technology for advanced applications.

Smoltek Hydrogen has received an order for samples of low iridium-load Porous Transport Electrodes (PTE) for PEM electrolyzers. The electrodes will be used in a joint development project with Heraeus Precious Metals, a global leader in precious metals.

Smoltek has yet another patent granted. This time in India, and it is related to the Assembly platform patent family in the direction of interconnects. This also makes our patent portfolio to now comprise 81 granted patents.

Smoltek patent No. 80 now granted – the first in a new family targeting the green hydrogen industry
Smoltek is awarded a new patent. The first one in a new patent family called Electro Catalyst Support, which is targeted towards the production of green hydrogen. This innovation discloses how our carbon nanofibers can support the iridium catalyst load in a PEM-electrolyzer in a better way. This patent also brings our IP portfolio to comprise 80 granted patents.

Smoltek is awarded a new patent – the first one of a new patent family called Discrete CNF-MIM. This innovation discloses a discrete capacitor component based on our CNF-MIM technology. This also brings our IP portfolio now to comprise 79 granted patents.

Inauguration of our in-house hydrogen laboratory
Today we have inaugurated the new in-house hydrogen laboratory. In these facilities equipped with advanced instruments and tools the R&D team can carry out performance measurement and long-term tests of electrolyzer cells, and will also be able to manufacture test cells.

Smoltek can radically reduce the iridium catalyst loading in PEM electrolyzers
Smoltek has achieved very successful test results of the company’s disruptive cell material for PEM electrolysers. Prototypes with only 0.5 mg of iridium per square centimeter produce as much hydrogen as a standard material with 2.5 mg of iridium per square centimeter.

Shafiq is the founder of Smoltek and he methodically created the company’s technology platform and patent portfolio until January 2021, when he took a break from the nanotechnology industry for pursuing an Executive MBA-program.

A giant market for new Swedish technology
In order to enable the extensive electrification and to replace fossil raw materials in industry, large investments are being made globally in the production, distribution and use of completely fossil-free hydrogen, so-called green hydrogen. In Sweden, some attention is certainly directed towards the steel industry’s investments, but the huge interest in hydrogen that we see in many other countries has not yet reached this point.
