The Inno­va­tion: A sep­a­ra­tor ele­ment for an electro­mechan­i­cal cell com­pris­ing a coat­ed con­duc­tive sub­strate. The coat­ing com­pris­es a first and a sec­ond part, where­in the first part com­pris­es a basal lay­er extend­ing along a sur­face of the con­duc­tive sub­strate and the sec­ond part com­pris­es a plu­ral­i­ty of nanos­truc­tures extend­ing out from the sur­face of the con­duc­tive substrate.
